Man Utd announce 10-man release list including Champions League winner and £40m star
Manchester United have announced the release of ten players following their worst-ever Premier League campaign, which saw them finish in 16th place.
The mass exodus comes after Ruben Amorim's side ended a disastrous season with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
High-profile departures include Denmark international Christian Eriksen, Swedish captain Victor Lindelof and veteran defender Jonny Evans.
The club confirmed the departures in a statement on their official website, which also named reserve goalkeeper Tom Heaton and six academy players among those leaving.
The clear-out represents a significant overhaul at Old Trafford as the club faces a season without European football for the first time in recent memory.
Evans, who previously won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his first stint at United, is among the most decorated players to depart.
Eriksen marked his final appearance by converting a penalty in the club's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the last day of the season, but it wasn't sufficient to secure a contract extension.
Lindelof's seven-year tenure at Old Trafford comes to an end after the Swedish international failed to find consistency following his £40million transfer from Benfica in 2017.
The academy graduates leaving include Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster.
Heaton's future remains uncertain as the goalkeeper continues negotiations with the club regarding a potential new contract.
The absence of European football will have severe financial repercussions for United, who are already grappling with monetary challenges.
Missing out on Champions League qualification means forfeiting at least £15.7million in revenue, money that has instead gone to Tottenham following their Europa League triumph.
