And Swansea City - the only Championship side of the round - gave multi-millionaires Manchester City an almighty scare.

Altogether, the Carabao Cup gave a reminder why it an integral part of the footballing calendar. So how did they get on?

Liverpool 0-3 Crystal Palace

Liverpool boss Slot made 10 changes to the side that lost to Brentford at the weekend, with only Milos Kerkez keeping his spot.

But Crystal Palace did not care, claiming an incredible victory led by Ismaila Sarr, who netted twice.

The Reds were absymal, registering just one shot on target while youngster Amara Nallo was sent off on his Carabao Cup debut.

Yeremy Pino wrapped up the result to make it another miserable night for Liverpool.

Wolves 3-4 Chelsea

Chelsea thought they were cruising after going 3-0 up after nearly 20 minutes with goals from Andrey Santos, Tyrique George and Estevao Willian.

But a second-half capitulation threatened an embarrassing exit for Enzo Maresca's men after Wolves came back with goals from Tolu Arokodare and David Moller Wolfe to reduce the deficit to one.

Liam Delap, making his first appearance in nearly three months, was sent off for a moment of madness, smashing a defender with an elbow after already receiving a yellow card.

That was before Jamie Gittens scored his first goal for the Blues in sumptuous style, hitting an incredible effort with the outside of his boot around 25 yards out that whistled past Jose Sa.

Wolves scored immediately from kick-off in injury-time through Wolfe again leading to a frantic end but the scoreline remained to give Maresca a huge sigh of relief.
