Man Utd sent brutal reality check over £62m signing with two issues raised

Manchester United have been warned that Matheus Cunha may NEVER replicate his Wolverhampton Wanderers heroics at Old Trafford by Tony Cascarino. The Brazilian playmaker completed a £62m move to the club in the summer as United overhauled their attack.

Cunha arrived at United off the back of the most productive season of his career, having struck 17 times last term - 15 of those coming in the Premier League. But Cunha has scored just once so far this season in 11 appearances - that solitary goal coming in a 4-2 win against Brighton.

Former Chelsea star Cascarino believes that Cunha will never quite fulfil his potential at the club after his role was changed by Ruben Amorim, while he also claims that the attacker has had a negative impact on Bruno Fernandes’ performances.

Cascarino said on talkSPORT: “Matheus Cunha, there’s been an exaggeration of how well he’s done at Manchester United. He hasn’t done that well, Yes, he’s done OK and if he can get back to what he was at Wolves (he’ll be a good signing).

“But look at his goals for. He’s got one in the games he’s played. I’m still not sure he’ll ever reach the level he was at Wolves because he carries the ball from the halfway line to the 18-yard box and does it well and brings the team up the pitch but he was a lot more than that at Wolves.

“He had a goal one in every two games at Wolves. Also, Man Utd are suffering because they’ve had to change the dynamics of Bruno Fernandes so it’s come at a little bit of price for Manchester United.”

And while Cunha’s displays have been criticised, Cascarino is also less than inspired by Benjamin Sesko. United also spent huge funds to sign him from German side RB Leipzig.

Sesko however has scored just twice since becoming a Red Devil and now appears to be restricted to the sidelines after picking up a knee injury in the recent draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

“He [Sesko] looks like he’s so out of sorts,” Cascarino added. “I think he’s got a bad injury. I think you’re going to find out he’s out for a while.

“I watched him after the pass from Fernandes, he couldn’t get it out of his feet and then it looks like he gets his leg stuck.”
